10 Cheapest Private And Public University In Nigeria

Truth is bitter and the truth about the saying ‘if education is expensive, try ignorance’ is not an exception. Hence, nobody wants to remain uneducated as most opportunities, in this age, are tied to education. Yet, not everyone who gains admission into a university can afford to keep up with the demanding tuition. Public universities are known to be cheaper than all others. However, as not everyone can cope in the over-populated environment of these government schools, we bring you a list of both cheapest public and private universities in Nigeria.
Below is the list of the arguably cheapest private universities in Nigeria that are fully approved by Nigerian Universities Commision (NUC).
Note that not all of them are approved

11 Quotes Of Buhari To His Ministers

After five months without ministers, President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday, November 11, inaugurated 36 ministers who were recently screened and cleared by the Senate.

The 36 ministers took their oaths of office in the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, after which they were given their portfolios.

The president in his address charged his ministers to get to work immediately and justify their inclusion in his cabinet.

Below are some of President Buhari’s quotes from the inauguration:

Buhari's Big Ministerial Appointment Mistake

With the history of poor, erratic and unsteady power supply associated with past governments, even Maitama residents would be anticipating the APC trademark 'Change' to sweep across the ministry of power and somehow or anyhow solve the problem of nonexistent power supply in most parts of the country.
Alas, Buhari, today decided to name former Lagos State governor, Mr Raji Babatunde Fashola as the minister of merged former Ministries of Power, Works and Housing.
From a progressive perspective every sensible Nigerian would agree that this is a very big mistake from our president. The ministry of Work and Housing alone is a deserving ministry for a person of Fashola's calibre and administrative prowess to pilot, likewise Power. Heading the Ministry of Works and Housing in Nigeria is very cumbersome and almost equivalent to the numerous tasks he faced as the Governor of Lagos State were he had commissioners who were accountable to him, let alone Power being added to this workload of a Portfolio.

FORMER military president, General Ibrahim Babangida, yesterday dismissed insinuations that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, was wooing him for 2019 presidential election as its candidate, saying that he has no such intention as he would clock 78 by 2019.

Ministries Without Portfolios

This week, perhaps on this very Wednesday that you are reading this, President Muhammadu Buhari would assign portfolios to the ones that must be considered lucky of the 36 ministers-designate. There have been media reports of anxiety among the ministers-to-be as to which of them would be lucky to be assigned portfolios.

This followed the President’s remark that not all of the 36 would be assigned offices. While the Constitution recommends that the presidential cabinet must have at least one minister from each of the 36 states of the warped federation that is Nigerian, the president argues the Constitution does not compel him to assign portfolios to all of them. This is Buhari’s not-too-ingenious way of keeping to his promise to run a lean administration while respecting the constitutional stipulation of one minister per state.

We Have A Sexuality Problem In Nigeria

Nigerians are obsessed with se.x, we just pretend not to be.

In this article, I am going to be talking about pornography – Internet pornography to be precise (and ancillary issues). But I do so with an upfront caveat – I do not intend to moralise as it is not my place to debate the morality of what adults indulge in on their devices, in their spare time. However, as a student of culture and behavioural development, I am concerned about vulnerable groups; particularly children and young teenagers. So, my article will focus on these two groups and tangentially, on women.

In 2015, I was privileged to work on two projects. The first was Jack & Jil Therapy – a free telephone based platform for those needing help for critical sexuality & life issues. The second project was #SaveMirabel, a movement to raise urgent funds for Lagos’ only rape crisis centre – The Mirabel Centre. As a result of my involvement with these two initiatives, I was exposed to a treasure trove of information about sexuality issues in Nigeria. I will share some of them in this article.

A Stolen BC

#Biafra

Stolen BC below reads:

The call for Biafra and the missing link;

- Not all Igbos supports the call for Biafra Nation
- the few people agitating for Biafra are billionaires with Mansions as homes in towns with no good roads or water amongst others while their wards are abroad
- they had been able to recruit protesters (mainly jobless ones who had been a menace to the society) awaiting the slightest provocation and cause mayhem
- how well had these people developed their region? Now I am very disturbed how they'll govern themselves as a nation
- who says war is the only way to go? What happened to referendum? This had shown that the agitators are not intelligent.
- they had refused to ask their grannies and parents the suffering of the civil war. A war so many Nigerians had prayed never to experience. And in war situation, there is no bank, market, ATM or night clubs....all you see are dead people, blood, rape, looting and more of that...
- when you hoist the Biafra flag in the streets of Portharcourt; how different are you from Boko Haram hoisting their flags claiming territories?
- when you go the way of a violent protest demanding for Biafra Nation in another sovereign nation then it amounts to treason and punishable by death penalty

- supporters, protesters and rioters of Biafra nation need act with intelligence as a call for the birth of a new nation with less than 15% of a tribe (Igbos) in support shows lack of vision

What Benue Student Eyes Saw In The Hands Of Benue Politician In Abuja

National Union of Benue State Student (NUBESS) Exco Stranded In Abuja:

The entire Exco members of the National Union of Benue State Students (NUBESS) are stranded in the Abuja home of the Senator representing Benue East senatorial district in the National Assembly.

The students chartered a Benue Link mass transit Bus in Makurdi and travelled all the way to Abuja on Sunday, 8th November to see Senator George Akume, their grand patron.

On arriving at the Abuja home of Distinguished Senator George Akume in Abuja, he refused to see them even though he is the grand patron of the union. The sad part of it was that the students sent him a letter about their planned visit, though I cannot categorically say if he acknowledged receipt of their letter.

While they were waiting at the gate of Senator George Akume's house, VIPs from Benue state kept on going in and coming out of the house but the students were not allowed to enter inside the compound.

SENATOR GODSWILL AKPABIO, IBRAHIM LAMORDE, IGP SOLOMON ARASE, THE CONSPIRACY THEORY AND THE JUDGEMENT OF HISTORY

I write with a deep feeling of melancholy to further bring to your notice my earlier concerns about the war against corruption under the notorious leadership of Ibrahim Lamorde led-EFCC as expressed in my previous letter to you dated 19th October, 2015.

It would be recalled that sequel to my petitions against the former Governor Akpabio’s administration dated 8th, 22nd June and August 3rd respectively, the Senate Minority leader was invited by the EFCC and after his departure from the Commission he bragged to his supporters that Lamorde was under his control and nothing reasonable would come out of his investigation. It was against this background that I raised an alarm urging the federal government to sack Lamorde since it was apparent that justice would not be done to our petitions taking into consideration the deliberate and unnecessary delays at investigations and possible prosecution.

There were allegations of favouritism in the allocation of the headship of the committees.
Hembe emerged as the chairman of the Committee on the Federal Capital Territory, which is considered as a Grade A committee and by extension juicy.

Ken Saro-Wiwa And 8 Other Ognis Day

Kenule "Ken" Beeson Saro Wiwa (10 October 1941 – 10 November 1995) was a Nigerian writer, television producer, environmental activist, and winner of the Right Livelihood Award and the Goldman Environmental Prize. Saro-Wiwa was a member of the Ogoni people, an ethnic minority in Nigeria whose homeland, Ogoniland, in the Niger Delta has been targeted for crude oil extraction since the 1950s and which has suffered extreme environmental damage from decades of indiscriminate petroleum waste dumping. Initially as spokesperson, and then as president, of the Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP), Saro-Wiwa led a nonviolent campaign against environmental degradation of the land and waters of Ogoniland by the operations of the multinational petroleum industry, especially the Royal Dutch Shell company. He was also an outspoken critic of the Nigerian government, which he viewed as reluctant to enforce environmental regulations on the foreign petroleum companies operating in the area.

Army To Investigate Military Conduct In Ekiti State Election

The Nigerian army announced the membership of a five-man panel charged with investigating misconduct by some of its officers during the Ekiti and Osun State elections in 2014.

The President of the Investigative Panel, Major General Adeniyi Oyebade, told the media and public that the panel had two weeks to submit a report of their findings and recommendations to the Chief of Army Staff Tukur Buratai.

The members of the panel include: Major General Adeniyi Oyebade as the President, Colonel Danladi Salihu as the secretary, Brigadier Generals Emmanuel Kabuk, Sunday Araoye, and Baba Ibrahim.

SaharaReporters first broke the Ekitigate scandal in February 2015 through the release of audio recordings and transcripts of Brigadier General Aliyu Momoh accepting bribes from former Minister of Defense Musiliu Obanikoro, former Minister of Police Affairs Jelili Adesiyan, Senator Iyiola Omisore, and Governor Ayo Fayose. The whistleblower, Captain Sagir Koli, provided evidence to SaharaReporters detailing the plot to rig the Ekiti State gubernatorial election for Governor Fayose and the attempt to do the same for Osun State.

Governor Ambode Is Incompetent - The Economist

TRAFFIC is a way of life in Lagos, Africa’s most populous city. Home by some counts to over 20m people, it is among the most notoriously congested places in the world. The “go-slow” piles up long before dawn as businessmen in SUVs and traders in battered buses hit the overburdened roads. It lasts until well after dark. Often the queues can be unfathomable: a rainstorm, a breakdown or a public holiday can condemn a driver to hours in horn-honking hell. Tardy workers proffer one irrefutable excuse: “Traffic is bad.”
Yet the gridlock that Lagosians have suffered in recent weeks is noteworthy even by the city’s horrendous standards. Rush hours have lengthened, and vehicles back up at unusual hours along the bridges linking the mainland with an island business district. Safety concerns are mounting as armed robbers pillage stuck cars while police are far away. Security experts reckon this is symptomatic of a broader increase in organised crime under a new and less competent state government.

Nigeria: Virgin Atlantic May Have Pulled Out of Nigeria, Sacks Nigerian Staff

Quote: "We fought daily battle against government agents who wanted to daily make fortune from us, politicians who saw the government 49 per cent as a meal to seek for all kinds of favour... watchdogs (regulatory body) that didn't know what to do and persistently asking for bribes at any point... Nigerian people are generally nice but the politicians are very insane... that may be irony because the people make up the politicians."

Happy birthday To Solanke Taiwo Teemoney

Solanke Taiwo Teemoney CEO ‪#‎amebof9ja
Through it all, I thank God for times I had plenty and times I had nothing. The times I was happy and times I was sad. The times I gained and the times I lost. The times I was judged and criticised by too many and the times I was celebrated by only a few. The times I loved and the times I could not love. The times I fell and the times I picked myself up. The times I made mistakes and the times I did it right. The times I felt alone and the times I felt complete. The times I was married and the times I was not. The times I did not have anyone and the times I had a family. The times I thought I had it all and the times I thought I had none. The times I thought I knew it all and the times I knew nothing. The times I blamed the world and the times I blamed myself. The times I thought I could fix things and the times I knew I could not. The times I could have died and the times I was saved. The times I cried and the times I smiled. In all of this I realised that I could not really control any of these factors on my own. That was when it dawned on me that while we are here on earth breaking our backs to control everything, God has already done that and has decided who we will be, where we will be, how we will be and when we will be, so no matter how hard people try to interrupt other people's lives or theirs it is not possible. It is said that who God has blessed no man can curse and whoever God has already cursed no man can bless. Today, as I mark another year added to my life, I thank God for bringing me this far.

Hear What Ekiti State Governor Said About Taraba State Judgment

Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State on Saturday described the tribunal judgement which sacked the Taraba State Governor, Darius Ishaku of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as a ridiculous political judgement that can never stand before men of good conscience and God.

Fayose, who maintained that there was a conspiracy by the All Progressives Congress (APC) led federal government and a section of the judiciary against the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), called on the Supreme Court to save the country from impending anarchy.

In a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, the governor wondered how a tribunal could make conduct of the PDP primary that produced Governor Ishaku in Abuja an issue when the tribunal itself sat in Abuja.

But before any of the local youths were able to compete for possession, Miss Grace had already run off to Lagos with someone who had passed through with the medicine show. Much more later, when she finally came back, word had it that she had become thoroughly a “Lagos babe” with a haughty manner and pretentious lifestyle. She appeared to have become a lady of no insignificant wealth. Miss Grace went back and forth to Lagos often. Of the girls that went to Lagos with her, some came back even poorer than before while some disappeared completely.

After I gave word to Miss Grace, I could not think of what to tell Amanda, my beautiful and most precious daughter, my heart ached, knowing that the words that Miss Grace had uttered that day were outright lies. But what was I to have done? No matter what, I would have to let my daughter go with Miss Grace.

PDP Slam Buhari, APC Senators Over N5,000 Stipend

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has said that Wednesday’s rejection by the All Progressives Congress, APC, senators of N5,000 monthly stipend, underscored the “monumental hypocrisy” of their party in getting to power by means of deceit and false promises to Nigerians.APC had promised payment of N5,000 to unemployed Nigerians as a social security package during electioneering campaign.

Drama At Senate Over Buhari's #5000 Promise To Unemployed Graduates

There was mild drama at the senate on Wednesday, as All Progressives Congress (APC) senators and those of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) squabbled over a motion by Philip Aduda, senate minority leader, urging President Muhammadu Buhari to fulfill his party’s promise of paying N5,000 monthly to unemployed Nigerian youths. ‎

The motion, which was seconded by Godswill Akpabio (senate minority leader), generated hot air, as APC senators shot it down. Aduda’s motion followed an earlier motion‎ on the need to curb unemployment in Nigeria by Bassey Akpan (Akwa Ibom northeast).

Akpan had observed that the rate of job creation in Nigeria was grossly inadequate to keep pace with the expanding working age and labour force population. He said he believed that if the nation’s unemployed youths‎ were effectively engaged in gainful employment, vices such as terrorism, kidnapping and armed robbery would be reduced. ‎

Akpan therefore urged the senate to call on the “federal government and sub-national governments to intensify their effort on employment generation activities in line with their various campaign promises”. The was motion adopted, however, after some amendments were made to it. The senate adjourned to next Tuesday.

What Are Buhari's Archivements

I saw this piece of write up and i decided to share it with my numerous readers to read. Please, kindly drop your comments were needed. Relax and enjoy yourself.

As far as federal administration is concerned, this year has ended. I don't see anything else this government can put in place this year that could create a positive effect in the short term. Portfolios are yet to be handed to the recently confirmed ministers and rumors have it that the ministers will likely get their portfolios next week. We have eight weeks left in 2015 and a federal executive council or a cabinet has not yet been instituted.

That notwithstanding, I must admit that I'm honestly not expecting the ministers to give any policy directive this year. They will have to take about 1 month to fully understand and appraise the current state of their respective ministries, develop ideas, policies and plans for their respective ministries. Coupled with the fact there's no budget in place and this government plans to commence a zero-based budgetary system that is time consuming and new to the system, it may take longer for Nigerians to start witnessing any positive change.

Now the big question to everyone is - What has Buhari's government achieved this year?
And I mean concrete achievements that were initiated by this government not projects or programs that were carried over from the previous government.

Has Buhari set out any economic policy to attract investors to the economy?
Has Buhari awarded any contract to develop an infrastructure project anywhere in the country?
What has Buhari done to curb the rising unemployment rates?
What has Buhari done to fight corruption (Aside the usual empty rhetoric)?
What has Buhari done to improve the state of our ailing economy?
What has Buhari done to improve security?
What has Buhari done to ameliorate the sufferings of the poor who are the most vulnerable to our current economic situation?

And please I don't want the usual excuses of "Six months is not enough to appraise his government" and "he's battling with the rot he was left with from GEJ"

The floor is open. . .

A 16-year-old boy, Nwanga Chidiebere, is battling to stay alive at Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki (FETHA), Ebonyi State. Chidiebere, a male servant, was allegedly attacked with hot water by a female doctor at FETHA, Jane-Glad Ugba.

Beware Of This New BVN Scam Format

One of our readers sent this in and i think its very important that you all go through it so that you dont fall victim too because this is to real for someone not to fall victim. Kindly read below:

“From a friend……..Good morning
Please read this carefully, it may save you a few hundred, or a few thousand, or may be a few million bucks. It’s a personal experience, a true event that happened this afternoon. I am Sunday Adewole, I just fell victim of fraudsters a few hours ago. I am an account holder with StanbicIBTC bank, I am trying to put fund together to pay for my daughter’s tuition fee in CU in which case the institution already resumed last week. Yesterday afternoon, I got a call from somebody purportedly from StanbicIBTC who said “Am I speaking with Dr. Adewole” (called out my other names) to which I answered in the affirmative. He said he called in respect of my BVN which I was observed not to have done, I replied that I already had it done with Skye bank and he said the bank will send me a link so that my account with Stanbic will be linked with the BVN. True to our conversation, I receive a message from StanbicIBTC in which an OTP was sent to my phone. A few minutes later, he called to ask if I got the the SMS, I told him yes but I can’t do anything about it cos I was driving. He said no problem I should call out the numbers which I did and he thanked me for my cooperation in a customer service manner. I heard nothing since then till this afternoon at precisely 13:00 hrs when I received a SMS from StanbicIBTC informing me of a debit transaction which cleared my account to the lowest thousand, i.e. I was left with a paltry N685 (six hundred and eighty five naira). I called my account officer who confirmed to me that I have fallen victim of fraudsters and he checked up on my account and saw that the recipient acct is in First Bank. My puzzle is how did they get my account details? How were they able to generate an OTP to my phone. I am waiting to see what my bank would do on it. In the mean time, please be aware of what the 419 people can do. I’ll keep you posted on any new development.”

Four (4) Mistakes That Keep Graduates Unemployed

1.    Lack Of Professional Connections

For a fresh graduate, it is not often easier to find valuable contacts to recommend a job or get recommended. This is absolutely okay if you have just passed out of university and searching for employment. But, if it is your tenth attempt for a job and you still have no connections, then you are not taking this issue seriously. A valuable connection not only guides you in right direction but also helps you step into a job easily. Employers are followers of technology. They are in a constant search for a common connection that can fit in a vacant position in his organisation.
Use social sites, such as LinkedIn, to capture attention of industry-specific professionals in order to gain professional mileage. When you are socially visible on these online spheres, you magnify your visibility. Ultimately, you are in reach of a prospective employer who shares common interests with you.

2.    Lack Of Talent Identification

Majority of fresh graduates blindly follow a field without first realising their own potential. Having a degree in ‘marketing’ does not necessarily mean that you cannot pursue a career in film direction. You can definitely do it if you have the passion in visual art and really think you can make a name in this field.
If you are excellent in something, it is meaningless to question its relevancy with your degree. Talent is not measured by degrees and certificates. It is an unquantifiable thing that is beyond parameters of worldly norms. Just take initiative and follow your dream. It is never too late to find your passion. It is just a matter of time and place.

3.    Lack Of Experience
Fresh graduates often do not have any practical experience of work. The lack of experience interrupts their job application and causes a significant delay in their employment.
If you have just passed your graduation and does have any previous experience, it is natural for an employer to not give you priority for a job. However, there are other more important things in your career portfolio that you can make up with your inexperience. As a starter, you can show your previous on-job training programs or internships that you have completed in your trade. You can even demonstrate your specific life experiences that make you perfect candidate for a job, if this is the case.

4.    Graduates Are Too Choosy About Their Jobs

Bank Verification Number Registration Still On

The Bank Verification Number (BVN) registration will still go on despite the expiration of the deadline on Saturday, October, 31, the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Nigerian Inter-bank Settlement System (NIBSS) have said.
The spokesman of the CBN, Ibrahim Muazu said yesterday that the process will still go-on and the deadline means that any customer that fails to do the registration will have some restriction to operate his accounts.
Mu’azu who spoke to our reporter on phone yesterday said from today Monday, November 2, 2015, regarded the exercise as successful, saying that majority of the banks have captured the BVN of their active accounts except for those customers that choose not to participate in the process.
He said: “Deadline was successful because the awareness has been created to millions of customers and the banking hall were empty unlike the June deadline where there were chaos everywhere in the banking halls”
The Managing Director of the Nigerian Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS) Mr Ade Shonubi told our reporter also that the BVN is a continuous process and that it is the minimum requirement for Know Your Customer (KYC) as provided by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and Bankers’ Committee.
He said: “What the deadline implies is that a customer who has not complied would not have access to his account until he or she complies”

Recruitters are individuals employed by companies to serve as an intermediary between job seekers and potential employers.

The big problem with recruiters is that they are typically paid based on two criteria: the salary of the jobs they put people in, and how many people they place. What common strategies do recruiters use to lure job applicants, and why are they bad for you? Let’s take a look…

1. The Span Messages (Through Email or Mobile)

This set of recruiters have a way of getting your numbers, sometimes they go to seminars and ask for phone numbers, or organize a fake seminars where people are asked to drop their numbers. They also get your numbers from all this marketers striking a deal with them etc They now contact you about an open position, that doesn't exist. The conversation (either via email or telephone) usually starts off with some praise (like “I reviewed your resume and I think you have some fantastic technical skills that could apply to this position I have open”) and then a pitch for a job that they’re trying to fill. someone found YOU, and decided that YOUR skills would match THEIR job. You should know it’s a scam. Examples of these people can be found at the Nairaland job sections.

How can you tell it’s a scam?

Obvious ones include a recruiter who emails you, praising your skills as a match for this job, and then proceeds to describe a job in a completely different field from your background. That recruiter is bullshitting you, and is really not interested in finding “the best fit.” They just want to collect the commission. Other signs include jobs that are somewhat in your field, but not necessarily fitted to your skill set. Most of the time, if a recruiter says “I have a client who…” they’re lying. Most recruiters don’t have exclusive locks on jobs; they get their jobs the same way you do, they just happen to know who the hiring manager is and thus can make more direct contact. Submitting your resume the old fashioned way still gets it seen by the same person.

2. The Vague, Rewritten Job Posting

Most recruiters working for staffing companies don’t have exclusive contracts to offer a job, actually screen candidates or are otherwise directly involved in the hiring process. Their role is largely self-defined, where they match candidates to a job posting; their success is dependent upon their network of contacts and their ability to get their candidates directly in front of the hiring manager.
As a result, most recruiters are pretty vague about the company they’re posting for when they write a job posting. They’ll usually write something along the lines of “My client…” or “We have a client who…” They won’t post any identifying information about the company in the ad, and for good reason: if you knew what company was hiring, you could go apply for the job yourself!
Recruiters will often post job descriptions that are vague, and more often than not, rewritten from the original. Recruiters are aiming to get the widest possible number of people interested in the posting, since that increases the applicant pool and increases the chances they’ll win a commission by making a placement. The result is that they will rewrite the job description, often adding keywords that they think might be related, and end up posting a job description that is vague, keyword-filled, and really useless for knowing what job they’re actually trying to find a candidate to fill.
This is bad for you because it means that you cannot target yourself to a particular position as easily. Most hiring managers want to know how you’re going to satisfy their needs, and a shotgun approach to providing such satisfaction will turn them off. If they’re looking for someone with Postgres experience they don’t probably care that you worked with MySQL, Oracle, and SQL Server, for example. Speaking of rewriting…

3. The Rewriting Of The Candidate’s Resume

Reasons Why Controller General Sack 35 Senior Customs Officers

The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Col. Hameed Ali has said that his decision to sack a total of 35 senior offi cers of the service comprising Deputy Comptrollers General, Assistant Comptrollers General and some Comptrollers is in line with the mandate given to him by President Muhammandu Buhari.

The service had last Thursday last week , compulsorily retired all the fi ve Deputy Comptrollers-General of the service comprising John Atte, Ibrahim Mera, Musa Tahir, Austin Nwosu and Akinade Adewuyi.

The CG, who also announced the sack of three Assistant Comptrollers General at the weekend, consisting of Madu Mohammed, who was Secretary to the Nigeria Customs Board, Victor Gbemudu, Zonal Coordinator Zone ‘A’ and Bello Liman, Assistant Comptroller-General in charge of Headquarters, said the exercise was in line with the on-going re-organisation in the Service.

According to him, the retirement of the 35 offi cers, which takes immediate effect as part of the re-organisation of the Service, is one of his core mandates handed down by the president.

Also affected in the shakeare offi cers of the rank of Comptrollers serving in Customs Headquarters, Zonal Offi ces and various Area Commands.

Ali also stated that the retirements were part of measures to kick-start the repositioning of the Service for improved performance.

The President had in September appointed Col. Hameed Ali, a military offi cer, who retired over 20 years ago as the CG of the service following the voluntary retirement Alhaji Abdullahi Dikko, who served for fi ve years

The new CG had on resumption of duty, indicated that part of his mandate as the new helms man for the service by President Buhari would consist of Reform, Reform, Restructure and Revenue RRR,.

The CG, who paid his maiden working visit to the service’s commands and other seaport facilities in Lagos, had while addressing news men after the fi ve day visit ruled out the possibility of sacking offi cers and men of the service.

He had also said that only a very few offi cers and men of the service are corrupt, contrary to widely held belief even around the government circles.

It was also gathered that the CG may also have set the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC against the six sacked top offi cers, who he had investigated on resumption of offi ce with the support of the anti-graft agency and the Directorate of State Security Service DSS.

Maritime stakeholders, who reacted to the mass retirement, noted that those of the fi ve DCGs were expected but said that those of Comptrollers and ACGs were not.

They argued that the compulsory retirement of some ACGs and Comptrollers may not be unconnected with the outcome of the corruption and security checks conducted by the CG in conjunction with the DSS and EFCC.

President Buhari had come under heavy criticisms by stakeholders following the appointment of the new CG, who they argued knew next to nothing about customs administration.

They argued that the appointment of a retired military offi cer, which was second of its type, as late General Sani Abacha appointed Ango Abdullahi, to head a highly Information Communication Technology ICT-driven will take the service back by over 10 years.

These stakeholders believe that the best the president should have done is to fi sh out a young offi cer, who is untainted and not corrupt to purge the system so as to maintain professionalism and effi ciency in the service.

“Bringing a complete novice in customs operations at this stage in the history and reform of Customs administration was the worst thing to happen to the service, especially under a democratic dispensation”, the stakeholders further argued.

26m Bank Accounts To Be Frozen As BVN Deadline Elapses

Customers waiting to register for their Bank Verification Number

Barely 24 hours to the deadline for Bank Verification Number,
BVN, less than half of the 52 million bank customers have been
registered, a development that may have caused discomfort in
the banking industry.
Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, had said no extension would be
made while non-registered bank customers would be barred
from accessing their money or any transaction in their account
after tomorrow.

About 26 million bank customers would be affected by the shut-
out. An official of the apex bank told Vanguard yesterday that the
registration window would still be opened after tomorrow, but
unregistered customers would not be allowed access to their accounts.
The official, who claimed that the exact figures of registered bank
customers would not be ready until next week, however
lamented that “less than half of total bank customers have been
captured as at Monday this week.
“Field reports show that there has been increased surge in the
number of registrations per day since last week, but it is clear
that we may not exceed 50 percent by the deadline.”

Managing Director, Ecobank Nigeria Plc, Jibril Aku, had said last
month that bank customers who fail to meet the October 31
deadline to enroll on the BVN network will have their accounts frozen.
Aku, who spoke at the end of the 324th meeting of the bankers’
committee in Lagos, said there was no going back on the new
deadline set by CBN for customers to obtain their BVN.
